We’re excited to welcome Edmonton’s Takleef Ensemble, and Calgary’s Bitter Fictions, to our favourite outdoor venue - for an evening of speculative sound and ancient, resonant groove.

TAKLEEF ENSEMBLE
Takleef Ensemble (Edmonton) is a new group working in the multiple disciplines of sound, poetry, video and contemporary art. Featuring guitar, sax, spoken word, violin, bells, percussion, electronics, clarinet and tanpura, the group is getting ready to release its first full-length double LP in 2023 on Saw-Whet Records. Takleef Ensemble is an ongoing effort to unbind burden, difficulty and sorrow — expect poetry, personal accounts and haunting melody.

bitter fictions
For the past decade, Calgary’s Devin Friesen has delivered a deluge of beautiful noise with his solo guitar project Bitter Fictions. Continually crafting, reshaping, and expanding the limitations of his chosen six-string instrument, he creates enveloping instrumental compositions/improvisations.
Carrying on the tradition of tone-worshipping titans such as Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth, Bill Nace, and Noveller, the releases from Friesen’s DIY label Shaking Box Music document his ongoing explorations. Alongside his solo releases and collaborations with fellow Calgary experimentalists Chris Dadge, Nate Waters, and Andrew Hume, Shaking Box added an acclaimed duo album from UK avant-garde heroes Neil Campbell and Richard Youngs to its discography with 2017’s Six Scores.

ContainR is a ground-level venue, with a wide entry area accessible to a motorized or manual wheelchair. There are two porta potties on site - one regular and one wheelchair accessible.
