Love Letters to Listening: Eric Chenaux Mixtape Compiled by Chris Dadge.
Our dear friend-of-the-organization and drummer-producer-presenter extraordinaire Chris Dadge compiled this top-shelf mixtape of Eric Chenaux gems, in advance of our concert on May 29th featuring the Eric Chenaux Trio + a violin/cello duo by Mark Ellestad.
Track listing below!
Draperies
Classic early Rat-drifting weirdness from EC and some frequent collaborators.
Drumheller
One of the jazzier EC outlets, and another early Rat-drifting/Tranzac staple group. This particular track is an EC composition that appears on other song based solo albums as well, displaying his ongoing penchant for shapeshifting reinvention.
“Skullsplitter” + “Worm and Gear”
My first exposure to EC and two of my all time favourites from the early solo albums. I’ve played “W&G” many times in the Aaron Leaney Three.
“This Ain’t Life”
First taste of the new trio, a truly wonderful, fresh, surprising, and wholly unique soundworld from these three.
“Have I Lost My Eyes”
A winning example of the middle period of Constellation solo albums.
“Put In Music This Ballad For Me”
An early Rat-drifting title, this collaboration with ex-Crash Vegas member Michelle Mcadorey is a rare example of EC “backing someone up”.
“Lovers Rock”
When Jean Martin entered the picture and the more contemporary songbooks emerged, this fascinating and hilarious project reached its zenith of sheer wackiness.
“Excerpt from Live in Calgary”
I’d be remiss to not include proof of one of my times playing with EC. A one-off with Scott Munro and myself (the Bent Spoon Duo), and one of my favourite improvised music recordings I’ve made.
